Views on Evil Eye and Magic; 3 out of 4 Believe in Both or at least in One of Them
 
 
A recent Gilani poll conducted by Gallup Pakistan shows that more than two thirds of all Pakistanis (78%) claim to believe in both evil eye and magic while the remaining 22% do not believe. Amongst various reasons for people to do magic on others, jealousy tops the list as cited by 43%, followed by revenge (32%), for fulfillment of one's personal needs and wishes was cited by 22% and 3% cited other reasons or gave no response. A vast majority (84%) do not support magic in any situation while 14% believe it is allowed to perform magic as long as it does not harm any one and 2% gave no response. About penalizing sorcerers, 83% support harsh punishment, 12% either claim the penalty should not be harsh or believe in not punishing the sorcerers at all and 5% were unsure.

The recent Gilani poll was conducted in Pakistan by Gallup Pakistan, affiliated with Gallup International Association, among a sample of 2805 men and women from rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during January 2010.
